On May 30th Ruby Sheaffer of Monroe, WI traveled to Washington D.C for National Farmers Union (NFU)’s All-States Leadership Summit where she was elected by her peers to NFU’s National Youth Advisory Council (NYAC) to represent Farmers Union youth from across the
country.

The NYAC is selected each year at the All-States Leadership Summit through a competitive application process to represent thousands of Farmers Union youth from across the country. As a member of the Advisory Council, Ruby will travel to Washington DC in September for the NFU fly-in to advocate for rural and agricultural policies with Congressional representatives. The NYAC works closely with education staff to provide support during NFU’s Annual Convention, help plan the next All-States Leadership Summit, and complete leadership projects in their states.

Ruby grew up on an organic vegetable and grassfed livestock farm outside of Brodhead. She graduated from Monroe High School in 2024 and is currently attending Macalester College in St. Paul, MN and is pursuing a degree in Political Science. Ultimately she hopes to work in state government and public policy with a focus on rural and education policy. She has been an active member of the Wisconsin Farmers Union for 11 years.
